My Sourdough Journey

Anyone else been making their own bread!?

I never got into sourdough because that blew up during Covid... and I had my first newborn...

When I started staying home this past year, I wanted to start getting into baking. To dip my toes, I bought a bread maker at the thrift store. Turns out, I love the process! I don't necessarily think of this as a money-saver, since bread wasn't a huge line item in my grocery budget, but it's more of a hobby. Every week I make an oatmeal sandwich bread in the bread maker. I have also made cinnamon raisin and cranberry wild rice.

Now I've begun my sourdough journey. I did not want this to be a huge expense, especially if I didn't end up liking it! So all I bought was the starter jar with accessories, the dutch oven and the danish bread hook! And so far, I am SO happy with these items, even outside of sourdough! I've made chilis, stews, czech pork, and curries in the dutch oven. And I've used the dough hook for homemade pizza dough and muffins! Oh and I bought a cheap shower cap for the bowl!

What I'm saying is I have been mindful with the few new products I bought for this endeavor. I highly recommend starting slow when trying out new hobbies.

My first sourdough loaf didn't turn out amazing, but I'm going to keep trying and continue my baking hobby. I am finally starting to understand starter. And I appreciate knowing what ingredients I'm feeding my kids, as well!

I'm linking the items I bought and a few other accessories I use frequently for baking.
